This past week, Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, gave a speech at the Munich Security Conference that was heavily critical of how European countries handle free speech. In addition, 60 Minutes aired a piece on German authorities cracking down on speech online that got a lot of attention. Today, Nalf dives into the topic of free speech in Germany versus The United States.
The biggest difference between our approaches is how we define freedom. In the US your individual freedom to say and do things are prioritized. In germany (and most of europe) our freedom to not be harmed by other people is prioritized. It's "freedom from" not "freedom to".
